Episode 2: Make Passwords Fun Again, and What About MFA?

In this week’s episode we continue the discussion on what makes a great password, since we kind of forgot to get into that the first time. We talk in more detail about strong and weak passwords, how some websites throttle password strength (and it’s not your fault), password personality tests, and the pros of cons of using public WiFi. Finally, we touch on Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and why it’s not as scary as you think.

Important note: Don’t judge your public wifi by its password. If your corner cafe uses its business name as its password, that doesn’t mean it’s unsafe. It just shows that they support the use of encryption… and thank goodness it’s easy to type in.

To sum up:

  • Size (password length) DOES matter!

  • Push all those sliders to the right when you’re using a password generator.

  • Public WiFi is totally OK. Like the street: use it but pay attention to your surroundings.

  • MFA: A tool for good!

  • Finally, are you looking to make a password strength checker for your app or site? https://github.com/dropbox/zxcvbn
